Do GMB geo-tagging blues have you down? After all, every 'expert' will claim that it is a waste of time. Or is it? Do this. Take a geo-tagged image and upload it to Google Photos. Now, click on the image and examine the image info. It certainly seems to know a bit about the image, including where it was taken. To my best guess, Google does appear to be stripping this info out but it's pretty obvious that it has been stored away in a database somewhere. Now, exactly how each Google app behaves with images is anyone's guess. However, I can say that description data seems to remain intact, most of the time. Did you know that you can do more with images than geo-tag them? Their description property can contain pages of text also. In addition to the image description, it can also contain a series of tags separated by semicolons. Give it a try. right-click an image on the desktop and select properties at the bottom of the menu. Now click the details tab. a popup window will appear displaying details about the image. Note the description area at the top. All those fields can be modified to contain SEO-relevant content. When uploading the image to a private server, what Google does has little or no effect. It now remains completely intact. Hence the image in this blog. It is simply a URL link to an image residing on my domain. In fact, there are several images in the folder. Each image has an SEO-friendly file name like affordable-carpet-cleaning-fall-river-ma, affordable-upholstery-cleaning-fall-river-ma, etc. After naming each file, I upload them to a folder on the server and create a list of URLs pointing to the image, like this:
etc.
I now copy all the links, separated by a semicolon, and past them to the tags section of the image details section for each image. This will cause web crawlers to go into a frenzy. Feel free to download and save the image above and examine the image details. It can also be used as a template.
